Ninety one percent of Americans disapprove of the actions of congress. Being influenced not by the needs of the people, they follow the dictates of the 41000 plus lobbyists in Washington. And as a result our country is being purchased by foreigners, consumed by illegal immigrants, our economy is in the tank, and out-of-control drug lords have become very powerful.
The blithering idiots in Washington, responsible for the chaos, all three branches of our government, insulated from reality, replace action with debates and vacations.
Instead of producing our own oil, they refuse to permit construction of new refineries, and disallow drilling.
Economic problems are solved by fluctuating interest rates and printing fiat money.
They waste billions of dollars and manpower in their failed attempt to control the sale of illegal drugs, instead of simply legalizing them, as they did in the 1920,s with booze.
(A note here. Perhaps, I should reconsider calling them blithering idiots. I may have assumed that they think they are doing well for America. In fact, their purpose may be to destroy our country. If that is the case, then they are really doing a great job. And they may have a 100% approval rating from certain foreign governments, as well as from certain groups in this country.)
This article will concentrate on the drug aspect of our(?) government’s failure. I put the question mark after our, because it appears at times illegals, terrorists, and political correctness are given more respect than American citizens.
Most people, including the media, talk show hosts and politicians accept the emotional aspect of illegal drugs, continually referring to the harmful effects of addiction on our population. There are so many stories of addicts of all ages overdosing causing deep emotional reactions from loved ones. But, don’t forget. All this is happening while drugs are illegal!
These stories seem to always come out during the infrequent discussions about legalizing drugs. People in tears explain how they have lost loved ones and become very angry at any suggestion of legalization. Their argument is that it would create more addicts in our society. This is not a legitimate argument.
But, consider what is happening now at a time when drugs are illegal. There is a war going on along our southern border and extends well into our country. Thousands of people are being murdered and kidnapped by the drug lords? Law enforcement, on both sides of the border, has lost this war.
And, it is easier for young people to obtain illegal drugs than a bottle of beer, because drug dealers don’t ask for IDs.
Our government stupidly continues to spend billions of dollars using the same techniques year after year, and fail miserably to put a dent in the mayhem created by this multi billion dollar industry.
It is time to try something dramatically different. And that is to legalize these drugs.
It may or may not create more addicts. But, it is very possible that it would save many lives by removing the multi billion dollar drug industry financing the many vicious drug cartels in Mexico and the United States.
There is so much money involved that it conceivably has bought off many politicians and enforcement officials in both countries.
What would we have to lose by legalizing the drugs, and establishing control over the entire drug operation?
Perhaps, through education and rehab, addiction might be better controlled.
But, the benefits should greatly outweigh the down side. We still have alcoholics, but after repealing alcohol prohibition, homicides dropped by 60% and continued to decline until World War II. If we ended drug prohibition, murder rates would likely plummet.
The federal government has been spending $69 billion a year worldwide for the last 40 years, totaling $2.5 trillion, on drug prohibition. How can they explain the increase in violence including thousands of murders along our southern border in the United States and Mexico, and reaching as far north as Phoenix, Arizona?
It’s as bad as or worse than Iraq and Afghanistan.
Our government cannot succeed along the path they are now travelling.
And, it will not solve the problem by our president and congress sending a billion and a half dollars to a corrupt Mexico that is sinking socially and economically with a diminishing oil industry.
Our present government and the two presidential candidates have presented no solution to this problem.
Try the legalization route and do it immediately. However, I do not hold much hope from this do-nothing congress and president.
