OUR GOVERNMENT AT WORK (revision of 2007 Post)

Let me see if I understand how this NAFTA free trade thing works. United States companies, prior to NAFTA, were manufacturing and selling their products at a price that covered the cost of American workers who were making a decent wage.

President Clinton and the Congress decided they could help the American people live better lives by introducing us to NAFTA, free trade. President Bush also considered this a winner since entering into numerous trade agreements with third world countries which have very cheap labor.

With the advent of NAFTA, free trade agreements made by these sages in government, companies were able to save money by firing their employees in the United States, while outsourcing the manufacturing of their products at a much lower cost in other countries like Mexico and China. Our government body in all its wisdom and glory thought this would, of course, be to our benefit since we could now purchase the items at a much lower cost saving us bundles of money. Plus, we wouldn’t have to go to all the trouble of manufacturing in our country, things like steel, automobiles, glass, toys, drugs and many other items. Oh, boy!

But, wait! Something went wrong somewhere. The products turned out to be dangerous, of poor quality and sell for as much or more than they did before NAFTA. Most of the products we buy are manufactured in China. Please, someone, tell me, for example, why a golf club made in China should cost $500.00 in the U.S.? This is more than they used to cost. What went wrong?

Another side effect was to give millions of American workers more leisure time since they no longer had to go to work.

But, please don’t blame our president and congress. They think they are doing the best they can to make our lives better.(my initials should be inserted here)

Or, are they part of a plot to destroy our country???

The above is a blog, (with a few current changes) I wrote in 2007. Since then our government has not only done nothing to correct the above foolishness, but, instead, has created new problems that have exponentially increased our moving to third world status.

The most comedic issue would be the spin to avoid congress, Clinton, and Hussein Obama, being blamed for the current global economic crisis. Barney Frank would be the chief spinmeister. These people are certainly the direct cause of this economic disaster, and they are the ones making it worse by the bailouts, taking over private companies, while ignoring the dictates of our Constitution. Incredible!!!

I get the impression most Americans feel that our country would be better off if our so-called government did nothing. Everything they do is associated with greed, an elitist power agenda, stupidity, or payback to election supporters. Anything that would benefit our country is not a consideration.

If the actions of our government were not so harmful and dangerous to our liberty, freedom and our economy, they could be a source of material for comedians, especially for the late Rodney Dangerfield.

If I thought the president and congress really believed in the things they are doing, I would consider them blithering idiots. However, I sincerely believe they are traitors to the United States of America. Their goal is obviously to reduce the stature of our country to a level of third world countries. And, their performance is outstanding. But, I could be wrong. Maybe they are just blithering idiots!
