Spin City revisited

I'm going to be covering a number of questionable activities of our local government, and staff.

The first one I discussed briefly in my first blog concerned the school override election. They hav tried this numerous times in the past, and it was defeated each time. But, they won't give up. They want our money.

The next most recent item for discussion is the Sewer Program fiasco:

Having lived for the past 15 or so years in “Spin City”, “Comedy Central”, or whatever name you use for Lake Havasu, I am amazed at the lack of common sense and logic, and the extent of the lies associated with the decision-making of our local government and staff.

I must also include the activities of our local realtors who, prior to the sewer bond issue, formed a group to encourage people to vote in favor of the 463 million dollar bond issue. They called themselves, “Citizens For Clean Water”. This, of course, presupposes that people not in favor of the sewer bonds should be called, “Citizens For Dirty Water”. Very clever of them, don’t you think, even though their title is misleading. The propaganda they spewed was also misleading, and self-serving.

And, then there was the local newspaper that occasionally printed a Letter to the Editor against the bond issue.

But, the real culprits in this comedy were ADEQ, our City Staff, and some of the council.

One of the star comedians though was the then mayor, who used scare tactics at a local meeting. More details on this later.

The main problem with their expensive joke was a premise never proven. The 463 million dollar estimate, which so far has increased to 500 million dollars, was based on their premise that effluent from septic tanks was polluting the ground water and the lake.

No proof of this has ever been publicized to the Citizens of Spin City.

Instead, they relied on fallacious arguments, and lies of omission..

The council, and mayor in particular, as well as the public works department campaigned for the 463 million dollar bond issue. The local newspaper printed letters to the editor mostly favorable to the bonds.

It is absolutely amazing that these people displayed only positive arguments. To them, nothing bad could come from the proposed sewer program. In fact, I questioned one of the consulting engineers in front of my house. He told me they were going to dig a trench down one side of the street, and would not cause any hardships to property owners during construction.

The citizens, based on the spin approved million dollar bond issue. However, after wittnessing this outrageously stupid construction program, most of the former yes votes to the bond issue would now be NO.

To Be Continued!!

Spin City

Having lived in Lake Havasu City for about fifteen years, I have come to realize, for many reasons,
they should have changed the name to Spin City.

The most current controversy is a demand from school officials to vote yes for two school overrides.
Millions of dollars are involved.

The irony of the whole thing is that 41% of our property taxes are already earmarked for education.
But, the State legislature does not give us our rightful share of this money.

School officials and others, however, want the taxpayers to pay for this shortcoming.

My attitude is that if come people feel so strongly about this, let them make a financial committment.
Don't try to intimidate and force everyone to pay.
